Round-up 18/12

Sadly, the latest spell of bad weather to hit the region meant that as many as nine games were called off. This included a tasty Premier Division tie between the leaders Hackenthorpe A and last years winners Royal Earl. Despite this, eight games did go ahead.

Penistone Church drew 3-3 after 120 minutes with Esteban UK. Gareth Brown, Jack Coleman and Ian Garrett got the goals for Penistone. Despite an exhausting extra time period they managed to keep their composure, to win the game 3-2 on penalties.

U21 Cup
The big winners in the U21 Cup First Round were Centre Spot. They sit second in the Third Division and they put in a dominant performance against fellow Third Division team Norton Oaks B. The Centre Spot won the game 13-0, with Bobby Howard and Matthew Hunter both scoring a massive four goals each. Simon Flaherty got two, with Tom Gabbitas, John Higgins and Kavan May also on target.

Norton Oaks B and Hackenthorpe B played out an eleven goal thriller at Warminster Road. Hackenthorpe, inspired by hat-trick hero Adam Dickinson, won the game 8-3. Karl Colley and Harrison Chamberlain both scored twice for Hackenthorpe. the win for Hackenthorpe stretches their unbeaten league run to five games and leaves them in a comfortable mid-table position going into the short Winter break.

U21 Division
Norton Oaks U21 bounced back from a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Dronfield Athletic U21, to beat third placed Mosborough U21 2-0. The goals came from Matthew Scothorne, as well as an own goal.

Round-up 11/12

Premier Division
last years' double winners Royal earl found themselves frustrated yet again, as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Crookes FC. Goals from Ryan Hindley and Jordan Turner could not prevent them from succumbing to their third straight league draw. They sit in a disappointing fifth place, nine points back from the lead. Crookes are level with the earl on points but have played three games more.

Division One
Third placed Arundel played host to second placed Brunsmeer Abbey at Frecheville Sports & Social Club. A single goal from Leon Wainman gave Brunsmeer Abbey the win and ended the Arundel's unbeaten league start to the season. Brunsmeer are now only two points behind leaders HSBC.

Division Two
Leaders Rawson Spring recorded a 5-2 away win over Heeley. Jack Poulton proved to be a significant difference between the two teams, scoring an hat-trick for the Rawson Spring.

Rawson Spring finished second place in Division Three last season, behind the winners Heeley, but this result and overall league position goes to show that they have acclimatised better to life in the Second Division.

Winn Gardens consolidated second place with a slim 1-0 away win over City Taxis New Inn. Paul Wake got the goal to give Winn Gardens their third straight league win.

Tim Council followed up last weeks four goals with an hat-trick in Penistone Church's 4-0 victory over Mosborough B. Oliver Robinson got the other goal, as Penistone moved five clear of fourth placed Heeley.

An entertaining game between Hackenthorpe Villa and Hackenthorpe B at Reignhead Farm ended 2-2. The two teams a little over a month ago, and they shared the spoils on that occasion also.

Division Three
Both Adam Raynes and Otis Thorn scored twice for Norton Oaks, as they beat Staffordshire Arms 4-0 at the Handsworth Recreation Ground. The win ends Norton's run of four straight league defeats.

African Dream Team and the Barrel Inn met at the Caribbean Sports Club, where they both scored two penalties each. The Barrel Inn  did take the points though, winning the game 5-2.

Under 21 Division
There was only one game in the Under 21 Division. Greasebrough U21 beat Dronfield Athletic 7-0, with Joseph Woodger scoring three times.

Sunday 4 December 2011

Mosborough U21's sat in third position in the U21 Division, when they hosted the league leaders Sharrow United U21's in the League Cup First Round. The game was very entertaining, ending 5-4 to Sharrow United after extra time.

League Cup Second Round
Thomas Roebuck (2) and Jordan Turner got the goals as the last years winners' Royal Earl moved into the Third Round. They beat Jack-in-a-Box 3-0 at Mount St. Mary. Royal Earl are still on course to be the first team in the 47 year history to win the cup three times consecutively.

Liam Morris scored twice, once from the spot, as HSBC cast aside Premier Division side Packhorse Inn 3-0. The result did not come as much of a shock with Packhorse struggling in the league and HSBC runaway leaders in Division One.

Greenhill White Hart were just edged out by three goals to two at home to the High Noon. The same fixture ended 6-3 to the High Noon only two weeks back; clearly goals are always on the agenda when these two meet.

Ridgeway Athletic comfortably beat Third Division FC Darnell 4-0 at home. Matthew Cranfield scored twice for the hosts, with James Hackelton and Robert Page also chipping-in.

Two goals from Liam Allott inspired the Intake Ball Inn to a 5-1 win over Winn Gardens at Ferrars Road. Jonathan Crossland, Nathan Slater and Bradley Hanson also scored for Intake.

Tinsley Trophy Round One
The game between Norton Oaks B and Penistone Church was lit-up b two outstanding individual performances. Adam Raynes scored an hat-trick for Norton Oaks, but he was out-shone by TIm Council who got all four of Penistone's goals as they ran out 4-3 winners.

Third Division Centre Spot played out an incredible 5-5 draw with Second Division Mosborough B. John Higgins (2), Daniel Meadows (2) and Andrew Dodds scored for the Centre Spot, with Gareth May, Richard Dollman, Aiden Smith and Keith Eaton (2) on the score-sheet for Mosborough. Mosborough went on to win the tie 6-5 on penalties.

The all Division Two tie between Hackenthorpe B and Norton Oaks A ended 2-1 in Hackenthorpe's favour. Steven Simmons and Jordan Caley with the goals for Hackenthorpe, with Jack Moorhouse scoring for Norton Oaks.

U21 Cup
Sunday saw the opening fixtures in the inaugural U21 Cup. The cup includes the teams participating in the Third and U21 Divisions.

It was a good day for the Bland family, as Joe Bland scored three times and Tom Bland twice in Woodhouse Juniors' 12-0 win over Grenoside U21's.

The Barrel Inn bounced back from defeat to FC Darnall, by seeing-off Throstles U21's 6-2 at Davy's Sports Club.

Callum Mawbuy scored a fine hat-trick in Dronfield Town U21's 8-0 defeat of Greaseborough U21's.

League Round-up
Premier Division leaders Hackenthorpe A made it three wins-in-a-row, with a 2-1 win over third placed Sharrow United. The decisive goals came from Luke Dixon and Carlos Forbes. Hackenthorpe are three points of their nearest rivals.

Both Wadsley Bridge WMC and Arbourthorne EA B could have done with the points when they met at

Chaucer Sports Centre. The final result suited neither, as it ended 1-1. Wadsley sit two points off bottom side Beighton Magpies, with the Arbourthorne a point behind them third bottom.

Division Two leaders Rawson Spring were held to a 3-3 draw at home to third bottom Hackenthorpe Villa. Although seeming to struggle this season, the Villa have taken four points off the leaders this season.

Tom Morton scored an hat-trick for Dronfield Athletic U21's as they beat Norton Oaks U21's in the only game in the U21 Division.
