Royal Earl Reach League Cup Final

The first finalists for the League Cup this season are Royal Earl winning 4-2 after extra time.

Beighton Magpies went into a early lead with two goals in the first fifteen minutes through Scott Rothven, the second being a penalty. Just after half time Royal Earl were denied a penalty and the turning point in the game was when a Beighton Magpies player rounded the keeper at 2-0 only to fired into the side netting.

Earl showed great spirit and launched their comeback through Tom Roebuck. And with 10 minutes to go  they made it 2-2 with a Rob Moorwood header. The game then went into extra time. The Earl scored a third, as Ashley Burbeary swiveled and lashed in on the turn from the edge of the 18 yard box. This happened with just about two minutes of the first period of extra time gone. Then with about two minutes to go from the end of the half a shot from Royal Earl hit a post and the first person to react was Burbeary again to score his second and Earls fourth goal.

It was a very spirited performance by Beighton Magpies who belied their position two divisions below their opponents. But as the game when on it was Royal Earl who got the stronger. It was good game played in a good spirit and a credit to both sets of players.
