Round-up 8/1

Happy New Year from all at the Meadowhall League. Action returned today after a two week festive break.

Tinsley Trophy Round One
We start our round-up in the Tinsley Trophy, where their was just one first round tie taking place. This came at Olive Grove, where Heeley FC saw off Mosborough U21 4-0. Twenty one year old Richard Mason grabbed a brace for Heeley.


Premier Division
High Noon moved joint top of the Premier Division after they beat Sharrow United 3-2. The vital goals for High Noon came from Lanzel Reid, Alex Rippon and Chris Barnes.

Third placed Crookes played out a hardfought 1-1 draw with Greenhill White Hart at Warminster Road. The result leaves Crookes five point back from the lead.

Last years' Champions Royal Earl returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over the Packhorse Inn. Scott Bates and Daniel Cardwell on the score-sheet for the Royal Earl.

A single goal from Paul Turner gave the handsworth Turf Tavern an excellent 1-0 away win over Mosborough A.


Division One
The game of the day in Division One came at Warminster Road, where the Intake Ball Inn and the Arbourthorne EA B shared nine goals. Liam Cartledge grabbed four of them for himself to swing the game in the Arbourthorne's favour. His goals were complimented one from Robert Aspinall and another from Steven Brammer to give the Arbourthorne a 6-3 win and a much-needed three points.

Leaders Arundel consolidated their position with a hardfought 2-1 away win over the Jack-in-a-Box.
However, they do not have much room to breathe as the Brunsmeer Abbey also won. A double from Matthew Clarke inspred them to a 4-1 win over HSBC and keep them on twenty points with the Arundel.

Division Two
Bottom side Ridgeway Athletic saw themselves unlucky, as they were downed 2-1 by promotion chasing Penistone Church. Gareth Brown and Scott Briggs grabbed the winning goals for Penistone.

Winn Gardens sit just ahead of Penistone on goal difference, after their 3-0 defeat of Mosborough B at Ferrars Road. Christian Gass was in impressive form scoring twice for Winn Gardens.

Two goals from Jordan Wrigley gave Hackenthorpe Villa a 2-0 win over Norton Oaks A. The win moves Hackenthorpe into a nice mid-table position.

U21 Division
Norton Oaks U21 just edged an exciting encounter with Throstles U21 at Davy Sports Club. Connor Merrison scored twice for Norton, as did Ryan Bates for the Throstles.
