Round-up 9/12


Despite a week of cold, at time wintry, weather almost a full complement of matches took place in the Meadowhall League.

Premier Division
Handsworth Turf Tavern consolidated their one point lead at the top of the Premier Division, with an exciting 5-4 win over Greenhill White Hart at Davy Sports Club.

Handsworth are closely followed by second placed Crookes, who were also big winners. A Joel Purkiss brace inspired them to a 5-2 win over out-of-form Royal Earl.
Arundel continued their up-and-down form with an impressive 5-1 win over Brunsmeer Abbey AJW.

Packhorse Inn grabbed their first win of the season over Sharrow United at Thorncliffe Playing Fields. Goals from Dominic Beever, Paul Lavender and Thomas Burns gave Packhorse a 3-1 however, it is not enough to lift them from the foot-of-the-table.

Division One
Hackenthorpe B just edged a seven goal thriller at Warminster Road against Intake Ball Inn. Two goals from Jamie Hopkins helped Hackenthorpe B to a 4-3 victory. Hackenthorpe remain third.

George Orrell and Tim Council both scored twice for Penistone Church, as they overcame Woodhouse JFC 4-0 at the Memorial Ground.

Winn Gardens ended a run of four league games without-a-win, by beating Jack-in-a-Box 5-2 at Davy Sports Club.

Division Two
City Taxis (Stradbroke) remain top of Division Two on goal difference. A goal difference they improved further, by beating FC Darnall 11-0 at Coleridge Road.

Hurlfield are second remain second, following the 5-0 away defeat of Norton Athletic. The win is Hurlfield's fourth straight in the league.

A single goal from Darryl Parkin gave Hackenthorpe Warriors a 1-0 win over Mosborough B at Reignhead Farm. The win arrests a run of three straight league losses for Hackenthorpe. They sit in third place, but are seven points off City Taxis' lead.

U21 Division
Sheffield FC U21's extended their unbeaten league run to 11 games, with a 6-0 away win over Swallownest U21's. They six points ahead of second placed Throstles U21's, who were also big winners. They beat Swinton Spartans U21's 9-0 at Sheffield Park Academy.

Dronfield Town U21's beat Hollinsend U21's 4-1 at Gosforth Fields. They sit in third, two points behind Throstles.

Thomas Oakes scored three times and Michael Fisher twice for Crosspool Juniors U21's, as they beat Hackenthorpe Warriors U21's 8-2 away from home.

Greasebrough U21's and Sharrow United U21's shared the spoils, as they drew 3-3 at Roughwood Fields.
