Alast..the return

The Meadowhall League returned to action last weekend following two consecutive weeks of across-the-board postponements due to wintry weather.

Tinsley Trophy Round 1

The big talking point in the Tinsley Trophy last weekend was FC Darnall's defeat by Dronfield Athletic U21's of the U21 Division. Dronfield Athletic, currently bottom of the U21 Division, won the game impressively 5-1 to progress to Round Two of the competition.

The big game of the round came at Oughtibridge Operations where the top two of the Second Division met. Rawson Spring edged the predictably tight game 3-2 over Winn Gardens.

Premier Division
Hackenthorpe A extended their winning run to five games, with a 2-0 away win over Crookes. Hackenthorpe remain league leaders. However, Royal Earl are beginning to turn up the heat with their fourth straight win.

Two goals from Thomas Roebuck inspired them to a 3-1 win over Handsworth Turf Tavern. Royal Earl are now three points behind Hackenthorpe.

Mosborough A claimed a good point with a 0-0 away draw against Greenhill White Hart.

High Noon backed up two consecutive defeats with a 3-2 win over Sharrow United.

Division One
Mid-table Wadsley Bridge WMC won impressively out against league leaders Arundel 4-1. Adam Askwith impressed with two goals for Wadsley.

Jack-in-a-Box beat HSBC 5-1 at Mount St Mary's. Jordan Meadows played an integral part scroing twice in the process.

Division Two
Mosborough B and Ridgeway Athletic played out an excellent seven goal thriller at Mosborough Miners Welfare. Ridgeway Athletic won the game, which could be pivotal come the end of the season, 4-3.

In similar fashion City Taxis New Inn beat Hackenthorpe B 4-3 at home. Ryan Smith scored twice for the hosts.

Danny Major grabbed a hat-trick in Heeley's 4-1 away win over Norton Oaks A.

Supplementary Division
A Supplementary Division started last weekend. The Division includes teams that have few games remaining and are still interested in further competition. The League works in a slightly different format to the standard. Teams register a point for a draw and three for a win, but additionally an extra point is added for each multiple of three goals scored in a game and each clean-sheet recorded.

Barrel Inn top the fledgling, after they beat Norton Oaks B impressively 4-0. For this victory the Barrel lead the league with five points.

Greasebrough U21 registered four points in their maiden game with a 3-2 win over the Staffordshire Arms.

No games played

Once again the weather spoiled the fun in the Meadowhall League. Cold weather has continued in the region and led to the postponement of all scheduled games.

Teams Wanted!

The Meadowhall League is looking to restructure its Under 21 League for the forthcoming 2012/13 season and is welcoming any applications for new teams for this division.

The Under 21 League was set up at the beginning of this season and has been an overwhelming success, with seven teams currently taking part. Dronfield Town U21's currently lead the Division's inaugural season.

The Meadowhall Sheffield & District Sunday Football League has been a long term player in Sunday football. With 48 years of competition it is one of the most prestigious amateur sporting establishments in the South Yorkshire region.

Anybody interested in entering a team in the league for the new season should contact Robin Beynon on 07931 500 596.

All fixtures postponed

Due to a short period of adverse weather in the South Yorkshire region, all Meadowhall Sunday Football League fixtures for today (5/2) were postponed.

The weather in the region on Saturday took a turn for the worse with a blanket of snow covering the streets of Sheffield by the early hours of Sunday morning. Transport was also disrupted with many bus services affected.

The weather forecast for the forthcoming week shows an improvement in the conditions, so hopefully things will be back to normal for the next round of fixtures next Sunday (12/2).
