Rawson Spring lift the cup

Taylor & Emmet Sunday Senior Cup Final.
Rawson Spring 4 Joker 2

Rawson Spring did themselves and the Meadowhall Sheffield Sunday Football League proud last night at Bramall Lane beating Joker of the Rotherham Premier League by 4 goals to 2.

Rawson got off to a terrific start with two goals within the first 10 minutes. The first a solo effort from a through ball by Andrew Gascoigne who collected the ball on the right and cut into the penalty area and despatched a low shot from 14 yards beating a despairing keeper to the left and the ball nestled in the goal.

Second came just a few minutes after with Jack Poulton doing excellent work on the left hand side beating the full-back and crossing for Alex Torr to stab in from close range.

On this Joker rallied a little and after a corner on 25 minutes a headed which was excellently saved by Joshua Branch came back out and was headed toward goal to be cleared off the line by which the linesman flagged to say it had gone over the line to make it 2-1, game-on.

Rawson's came back strongly and scored two more goals in the last 10 minutes of the half. The first crossed from the left by Jack Poulton was stabbed towards goal and a excellent save by Joker keeper Jamie Bailey rebounded out and it placed past him and a defender on the line from 12 yards to make it 3-1.

Minutes afterwards a free-kick from the right was met by Alex Torr who rose above the Joker defence to head it in.

Half-time 4-1 to Rawson.

The second half was a different matter with Rawson's sitting back and inviting Joker onto them to defend their lead.

With about 20 minutes left a ball through found the Joker winger who cross come chip evaded the Rawson goalkeeper and was headed in at the back post to make it 4-2.

Rawson's on the defending resolutely and after one or two scared started to attack in part themselves.

The game became cat and mouse for the last ten minutes and with substitutions disrupting the game there was only going to be one outcome.

A well deserved win and congratulations to Rawson's for a great cup campaign.
